Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP is headed for a victory bigger than in 2014 – leads suggest the party will cross the 300 mark – besting last time’s 282 tally – to emerge as the single largest party. The party has kept its core states – the Hindi heartland, Gujarat and Maharashtra – while posting fresh victories in West Bengal, Odisha and the northeast. It has also scored a huge win in Karnataka – a state the Congress rules jointly with HD Kumaraswamy. “Together we grow. Together we prosper. Together we will build a strong and inclusive India. India wins yet again! #VijayiBharat,” PM Modi tweeted on Thursday. Congress President Rahul Gandhi congratulated the Prime Minister and said “The people have decided”. Elections were held on 542 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats and a party or alliance needs 272 seats to form government.
